Origin of the World

Long, long before the realm of Alteria, and the universe itself was shaped by the gods, there was nothing but void, and a single, nameless spirit. he was infinite, perfect and faultless. And yet he was alone. For countless ages he remained in his loneliness. Loneliness, however, breeds discontent, and the great spirit did not wish to remain in this state. And so from singularity came duality. Two parts of the same whole that soon would give way to the universe. Their first children were the primordial gods, the pillars whose very existence created basic concepts vital to the world. Their next offspring were the gods that now rule the Realm of Alteria. They do not exist simply as beings, but there are various aspects of them that may be worshiped solely.

The birth of the pillars shaped the fundamental nature of existence, while the birth of the gods allowed for active creation and change. The dual spirit was tired after its greatest acts of procreation and descended unto the lands of the realm. They sleep now as the consciousness of the land. Their dreams may spawn new things into the world that even the gods cannot predict. And one of these was a great separation- the separation of the mortal realms from those of Velania, the realm of the holy, and Draal, the realm of the dark. It was in the early ages, when man was but a simple creature with no mind of his own. It was the will of gods to grant their favor, and with it power, to one species, and so a mighty creation of the gods was made to  breed with one of the bipedal, monkey-like creatures.

What they did not expect was that the children that were sired, the proto-humanity, would have mighty souls that could evoke the divine spark within themselves for the first workings of magic and who would pray to the gods to become theurges that channeled greater power. These souls had to go somewhere when they died, they would collect in the mortal realm, creating a psychic overcrowding effect that tortured the proto-humanity. The gods shaped themselves their own plane, where different places were loosely connected and where they could store the souls of their faithful believers so that those could live forevermore. One god however did not agree with this plan, he desired that no freedom should be given to any part of creation that was not a direct scion of the dual spirit. He waged war against his brothers and sisters and when he finally lost his shattered body became seed and centre for Draal.

The proto-humanity, the heavenly sired children of god and mortal creature evolved over the course of many ages. The humans as we know them now are those who were not directly affected by the gods on a greater scale but adapted to the different biomes of the world, sometimes with the help of a generation blessing. Other races that share the human template came from greater acts of the deities. Yet others are the product of man’s own ingenuity while others have completely different origins and are quite alien when compared to the humans.
